House sales slump to a ten–year low

Scottish house sales for the period of July to September slumped to a ten-year low for that quarter, with fewer than 20,000 properties sold.

According to Registers of Scotland, sales dipped 2.1 per cent during the second quarter of 2012-13 on the corresponding period the previous year, with a total of 19,868 homes sold.

The gloomy picture was compounded on news that the average price of a home dropped 2.3 per cent in the same period, taking the average cost of a residential property to £159,310.
