Homes and businesses up to speed
THOUSANDS of homes and businesses are set to be given access to a faster broadband connection.
BT said download speeds of up to 20 megabits per second would be twice as fast as what was already available in South Queensferry.
It said 4650 homes and businesses in the area would have access to the network.
Councillor Tom Buchanan, the city’s economic development leader, welcomed the news for both business and residents.
He said: “Businesses can use the technology to be more efficient and competitive, whilst individuals can develop their education and skills for a fast-changing world. Efficient, high-speed communications are critical to our future success.”
The faster broadband speeds are in addition to the 18 other Edinburgh exchange areas which have already benefited from network improvements.
BT Scotland director Brendan Dick was keen to highlight the importance of the improved copper networks in the area.
He said: “It is an important part of BT’s plans to help ensure that Edinburgh is able to take full advantage of the communications revolution.”
