Hester slams City culture

Royal Bank of Scotland boss Stephen Hester has launched a blistering attack on City culture and bankers who refuse to change their ways.

The bank’s chief executive said it was time for those unwilling to adapt to changing demands to quit.

And he called for the customer to be “put first” in future. Mr Hester, who took over the reins at RBS in 2008, said the new culture had to be embraced if customers were ever to
trust banks again. But he expected that his bank was likely to be among those fined over the recent lending rate fiasco.
