Help the blind for Guide Dog Week drive

PEOPLE in Livingston will be given advice on how to provide assistance to blind people during Guide Dog Week next month.

The South Scotland District Team of The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association will lead the way in Livingston, as part of a campaign to educate people in how to provide sighted guiding assistance to a person with sight loss.

Staff and volunteers will show that in potentially difficult situations, such as a cluttered high street, busy road junction or bus station, people with sight loss can sometimes need an extra helping hand to get around, even if they have a guide dog or use a cane.

During Guide Dog Week, the team will be distributing a booklet and DVD that give helpful hints to enable people to assist those with sight loss.

Colin Gallagher, Guide Dogs district team manager, said: "The South Scotland District Team of Guide Dogs is proud to support the Guide Dog Week campaign, educating local people and public service providers on how to provide sighted guide assistance with confidence to blind or partially sighted people."
