Health fears block Leith Docks leisure plans
PLEASURE boats, house boats and canoes will remain banned from Leith Docks when a massive area regeneration is completed.
A blueprint for 16,000 new homes at the docks was submitted to the council last year. Community groups had hoped the docks could be used for water-based leisure activities and approached the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.
But Simon Pallant, senior planning officer, replied: "Data for the Water of Leith indicated elevated bacterial levels. These would arise from the operation of sewer overflows. Hence Sepa could not endorse water-based activities, where this would give rise to ingestion of water."
