Grenade scare in city centre garden
THE discovery of a grenade in a city centre garden sparked a bomb scare last night.
Members of the Royal Logistics Corp bomb disposal squad attended the scene in Edinburgh’s Melville Street as rush hour began.
A large part of the street was cordoned off as bomb disposal experts examined the grenade found by workmen digging in a garden.
At least eight addresses were cordoned off, including insurance companies and a nursery.
Two men in camouflage uniform and two police officers were seen entering a property which has scaffolding set up outside.
A police spokesman said: “At 4.30pm a grenade was uncovered during the excavation of a garden. Police secured the area and will release further details in due course.”
