Generla Election 2010: Labour fights to hold off Lib Dems in Leith

LABOUR is now facing a straight fight with the Liberal Democrats to hold Edinburgh North & Leith, according to bookmakers Ladbrokes.

Both parties are now 11/10 to take the seat at the election on Thursday, following a post-TV debate surge in support for the Lib Dems.

Leith has had a Labour MP since the end of the Second World War, but the Liberal Democrats have spent vast sums of money sending leaflets and direct mail to voters in a bid to woo them.

Sitting MP Mark Lazarowicz has held the seat since 2001 and is facing a challenge by former BAA head of communications Kevin Lang as the Lib Dem candidate.

The Conservatives and the SNP are both at odds of 10/1 to take the seat.

Labour is facing a similar fight in Livingston following the departure of disgraced MP Jim Devine, but it is predicted to lose Edinburgh South to Lib Dem candidate Fred Mackintosh, who has pulled away from the Conservatives.
