Gay footballers secure first major trophy

SCOTLAND'S gay footballers have won the UK championship in their first full season.

The Edinburgh-based Hotscots FC won their first major trophy, the Gay National League Cup, in an action-packed game against GFC Bournemouth. They won 1-0 in the match in Woking on Sunday.

The club was set up in 2007 to create a safe and tolerant environment for gay, lesbian and bisexual people to play football.

Chairman and founder Kevin Rowe said: "The club was formed to give gay people a chance to get back into the sport, and winning this trophy is proof that we have come such a long way in a little space of time.

"I know the lads will enjoy this win, and it's something that will live in the memory for many years to come."

Manager Conor Simpson added: "I'm so proud of their performance. We saw the culmination of weeks and months of hard work in training."
