Gay footballers score a historic victory over the Auld Enemy

SCOTLAND'S first gay football team thrashed their English counterparts at the weekend and now have their eyes on the ultimate prize – the World Cup.

Edinburgh-based HotScots FC's 4-1 win over London Leftfooters was their first victory, and chairman Kevin Rowe said he hoped it will help raise the profile of the side.

Mr Rowe, 35, said: "The most important thing is trying to break down barriers and getting guys who wouldn't normally feel comfortable playing football out on to the pitch."

As Scotland's representatives in the Gay World Cup in London in August, Mr Rowe said the HotScots can use the win as a springboard.

He said: "I'm absolutely over the moon, it's great to get a first win under our belts. They (London Leftfooters] have been playing for five years and are founder members of the gay league in England so it shows you what an impressive performance it was."
