Gas giant says sorry to Jessie with bouquet
BOSSES at energy giant Scottish Gas have sent flowers to an elderly widow they threatened to refer to a debt recovery agent.
Last Thursday the Evening News told how 82-year-old Jessie Spratt was repeatedly sent an invoice totalling 235 for a radiator she'd already paid for.
The energy giant finally admitted their mistake, and apologised to Mrs Spratt – before saying it with flowers on Friday.
She said: "A big van pulled up outside and I thought it must be a delivery for one of the neighbours, but this man came to my door with a big box.
"I opened it and there was this massive bouquet of flowers. I thought, 'who would be sending me flowers?', and then I saw there was a card from Scottish Gas.
"It said, 'With our apologies for all the inconvenience caused'.
"It's amazing! You fight for a year to get your bill sorted, and one call to the newspaper gets it all sorted and get a bunch of flowers as well."
