Gallery hits target early
The newly refurbished Scottish National Portrait Gallery has reached its target to attract 300,000 visitors three months early.
The building in Queen Street reopened in December last year after a £17.6 million transformation.
It set a target to bring 300,000 people through the doors in the first year after reopening.
Bosses said the figure represents a 50 per cent rise on previous average numbers before the refurbishment.
Christopher Baker, director, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have reached this important target so rapidly.”
Visitor number 300,000 was Nick Leitch, from the Capital, who was rewarded with lunch in the restaurant and gifts from the shop as well as a tour of the building.”
