Future looks dark as power cuts hit businesses

Chef Mostafizur Rahman fears for the future of the Kasturi Restaurant

Chef Mostafizur Rahman fears for the future of the Kasturi Restaurant

TRADERS in the West End say they are fearing for their futures after a series of power cuts.

Businesses in Shandwick Place were plunged into darkness during the latest blackout at 9.30am yesterday after a basement sub-station flooded following heavy rain. Around 35 premises were forced to close their doors for two hours before the supply was restored.

Mostafizur Rahman, chef at Kasturi Restaurant, said: “We were just surviving before with all the tram works. Something like this, on top of everything else, means we may not be able to continue trading.”

A ScottishPower spokeswoman said: “The cut was due to flooding of a sub-station but the supply was restored to all affected premises by noon. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
