Funeral for girl in loch canoe tragedy

THE funeral of a five-year-old girl killed in the Highland sea loch canoeing tragedy is to take place next week.

Grace Mackay, from Muir of Ord, died in hospital after being plucked from the sea at Gair Loch, in Wester Ross.

Her father, Garry, 36, and her eight-year-old sister managed to swim ashore and raise the alarm following the accident on Sunday.

The funeral will be held at East Church in Muir of Ord on Wednesday.

A search is continuing for Ewen Beaton, 32, from Ressaurie, near Beauly, whose two sons, Ewen, five, and Jamie, two, also died.

Grampian Police’s underwater search unit used sonar equipment in areas of the sea loch not searched before, but still found nothing.

Police and coastguard personnel continue to scour the area in a bid to locate his body.
