Former racehorse freed from stream

A FORMER racehorse has been rescued by firefighters from a stream in the Scottish Borders.

• Former racehorse Kit Carson rescued from embankment in Hawick

• Firefighters use airbags and lines to free him from stream

Kit Carson, as he was known in his racing days, became stuck at the bottom of an embankment near Midburn Farm Cottage, in Hawick, just after 4:30pm.

Firefighters used airbags and lines to free him before handing him over to a vet.

He is believed to have been stranded for some time, but had gone unseen because of the fog.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters used specialist skills and equipment to free the horse from the stream. He was in a poor condition having spent some time in the water. A vet was standing by to advise and provide care once he was freed.”
