Food packaging firm bags innovation prize

COMPOSTABLE packaging firm Vegware has scooped a prestigious innovation gong in the regional heats of the British Chambers of Commerce awards ceremony.

The Polwarth-based firm, the UK’s first manufacturer of completely compostable food packaging, won the Excellence in Innovation Award at the Chamber Awards 2012 Scottish heats.

Vegware’s products are all plastic-free and low carbon, including hot cup lids, double-wall cups, soup containers, high-heat cutlery and glassine window bags.

The firm, which is a member of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, is one of six winners in Scotland who will now go forward and compete for national titles in their respective categories.

All will have a chance to win Outstanding Business Achievement and a £25,000 cash prize at the national final in London on November 29.
