FM's 'Tiger' Tim rocks on

VETERAN Scots DJ "Tiger" Tim Stevens, 54, yesterday vowed to buy a new suit for his visit to Buckingham Palace after being made an MBE.

The Radio Clyde stalwart, who has been battling multiple sclerosis for 20 years, has been singled out for his services to broadcasting and his charity endeavours.

The Glasgow-born DJ said: "I was shocked when I heard and just thought 'wow'. It's incredible and I am really pleased. It's amazing to have been given this award for doing something I love doing." He added: "I am especially pleased for my mum - she was over the moon."

Stevens started work as an apprentice electrician, where he earned his nickname "Tiger". He switched to DJing when his mobile record business took off.

Word spread about his manic performances and he was offered a job on Radio Clyde soon after it launched in 1971. Despite his illness, he still broadcasts on Clyde 1 four days a week and remains a favourite with listeners.
