Five held over petrol protest

FIVE people have been arrested following a series of protests by environmentalists at city petrol stations.

The protests were organised by the environmental group Greenpeace over plans by oil giant Shell to drill in the Arctic

The activists were successful yesterday in closing down three of the company’s 14 petrol stations in and around Edinburgh.

Four protestors – some dressed as polar bears – were successful in locking themselves to pumps while another scaled the roof of a station in Dalry,

Today Lothian and Borders Police said five arrests had been made, while three other individuals had been detained pending further inquiries,

Greenpeace claimed that in London 40 filling stations
were forced to close due to
protests
