Fitness class makes splash for toddlers

A NEW class that teaches toddlers how to swim while giving parents a workout is to launch in the Capital.

Dubbed Turtle Tots, the class aims to teach water confidence and key lifesaving skills in a “fun and enjoyable” way offering health benefits to both parent and baby.

Classes are already running in Fife and Livingston and will start in Edinburgh at Novotel, Lauriston Place, in September.

Instructor Karina Reinhardt, a qualified swimming teacher, said: “Swimming can be such a fun activity for all the family and it’s a really lovely way to bond with your baby and help their brain and physical development. The programme has been written in conjunction with personal trainers, so every movement mum makes in the water helps their post-natal fitness – and every class can burn 250 calories.

“Since having my own children I’ve become even more aware of how important it is to make sure children are safe and nurtured. Sadly, not every child receives the love and care they need, which is why I will be donating a percentage of class fees to support NSPCC Scotland’s work.”
