Firm floats Waterfront hotel scheme

ONE of the companies behind the regeneration of Edinburgh's Waterfront is hoping bring a new 200-room hotel to Granton.

Waterfront Edinburgh Ltd (WEL) has submitted an outline planning application for the hotel on its new Harbour Road C site, off West Shore Road.

The application, which is yet to go before the council's planning committee, is intended to raise the profile of Granton Waterfront's seriously devalued land.

A site which is sold with outline planning permission already in place is significantly more marketable to developers. However, if the application is approved there is no guarantee a hotel developer will seek to build on the land, especially in the current economic climate.

As well as a new hotel, the application includes provision for a restaurant, pub, convenience store and 42 flats – seven of which will be earmarked for affordable housing.

There be 228 new parking spaces – 120 for the hotel with the rest for the surrounding businesses and flats.
