Firefighters KO police in charity bout

A TEAM of firefighters claimed victory over a squad of police officers in a charity boxing match held at the Corn Exchange.

The match-up between the emergency services from Lothian and Borders saw the firefighters secure the win by six bouts to three.

Nine fights were staged during Saturday night’s event to raise money for the charity Caudwell Children, which provides support for disabled youngsters.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “It was a really successful night. Obviously there is a little bit of pride that the fire service won, but the event was really about raising money for truly excellent charities.”

The fighters were watched by guest of honour, former world lightweight champion and Edinburgh resident Ken Buchanan. The event followed The Battle of the Badges, a
boxing fundraiser held at the same venue in April.
