More than 45 firefighters were battling an “extremely difficult” fire in Memsie, near Fraserburgh this morning.

Grampian Fire and Rescue Service were at the scene of the incident since 1.20am. A house was said to be “well alight”.

A lack of water in the area made the house fire extremely difficult to deal with, the service said.

Water had to be transported to the scene from a source around half a mile away.

There are no reports of any injuries in the blaze and the service said an investigation into the cause would begin once the fire was fully extinguished.

Another large fire saw 21 people evacuated from a block of flats last night.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus led the residents to safety after being called at around 7.15pm to Cairns Place, in Hillyland, Perth.

A spokeswoman for Tayside Fire and Rescue Service said one person was treated at the scene for mild smoke inhalation.

Not long after, two people had to be rescued from a house fire in Fife.

Fife Fire and Rescue were called to Thistle Drive in Glenrothes around 8.30pm.

Two people were rescued from the blaze and were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
