RESIDENTS in Glasgow city centre street were evacuated from their homes last night after a fire broke out in an eight-storey building.

The incident occurred at around 11.20pm last night when fire crews were called to an address in York Street near the city’s waterfront.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said crews had to deal with an intense fire in the top three floors of the building.

All residents were accounted for and one woman was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
