Around 60 firefighters are tackling a large blaze at a derelict school which is believed to have been started deliberately.
Grampian Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident at the old Bankhead Academy building in Aberdeen at about 5am today.
The service’s area manager Andy Couselant said the fire was being treated as suspicious as it appeared to have been “a reckless act of wilful fire-raising”.
He said it not only risked the lives of firefighters involved but caused disruption to the community and took manpower away from the service’s other duties.
A joint investigation will be launched with Grampian Police.
There are no reports of any injuries.
