Finance crisis delays report on stadium future
A DETAILED report on the future of Meadowbank Stadium has been delayed due to the global financial crisis.
The council is planning to bulldoze the existing stadium and build a new 25 million revamped sports complex on the site.
When the decision was taken in March, officials said they would produce a fully-costed plan by October. But a council spokesman said today: "Our technical appraisal of the site is prepared and on time. However, in light of current global financial concerns, it would be unwise to present a report without first considering the impact of these events.
"A report on the effects of the financial situation on the council's capital projects is currently being prepared so we have taken the decision to consider that before we present the Meadowbank report."
Save Meadowbank spokesman Kevin Connor said: "This delay is yet another sign of the council being unable to deliver in terms of sports provision for the city."
