Filmmakers face 48-hour race to shoot

THIRTY-NINE teams of filmmakers will begin a sleepless weekend tomorrow as they embark on Edinburgh's second 48-Hour Film Project.

The contest kicks off at the Cameo Cinema in Home Street tomorrow evening, where competitors will be given a genre, character, prop and a line of dialogue to use in their films.

They will then embark on a race against time to write, shoot and edit their short films before the deadline on Sunday evening.

All the films will be screened at the Cameo between 26 and 28 May, with audience members given the chance to vote for their favourite films – screenings are open to the public.

The winning team will get professional editing software and their film will be screened at the international finals of the worldwide 48-Hour Film Project in Las Vegas in April 2010.

The competition began in Washington DC in 2001, and since then has spread to more than 70 cities around the world.
