Fans' pub to be knocked down in June
ONE of the city's most prominent pubs will be demolished in June to make way for the city's trams.
The Caledonian Ale House next to Haymarket Station closed in March and will be knocked down to make way for a viaduct across the station car park for the trams.
The pub – which was built in 1862 and has long been a popular haunt with rugby and football fans – was compulsory-purchased by tram firm TIE two years ago.
Closure of the Ale House, which was known as the Haymarket Station Bar until 1995, meant the loss of 12 jobs.
The tram link is the start of the off-road section of the line, which goes from Haymarket Station adjacent to the railway out to Edinburgh Park, and is set to be finished by Christmas.
