Falkirk Wheel does a turn at Christmas
THE Falkirk Wheel has announced plans to open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
The wheel, which is the world’s first rotating boat lift, will open on Christmas Eve until 3pm and on New Year’s Eve.
But it will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and January 2.
The wheel, which links the newly-restored Forth & Clyde and Union canals, has attracted more than 230,000 visitors since it opened in May.
It reconnects a canal link between Edinburgh and Glasgow that was severed 40 years ago after 200 years’ use.
The wheel reopened in October following a two-week closure to allow for 350,000 worth of repair work after vandals flooded its unique canal boat lift.
