ENT clinic in remote link
PATIENTS in the Western Isles are being diagnosed by video in a move aimed at improving health care in rural areas.
Consultant surgeon Leo McClymont, based at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, has conducted the first ear, nose and throat (ENT) clinic with patients in the islands using pioneering remote technology.
The Scottish Centre for Telehealth is helping health boards across NHS Scotland improve patient access to healthcare no matter where they live. Phase one of the project saw a similar service set up between Aberdeen and Shetland.
Under the latest scheme, selected patients, mainly those with voice and throat disorders, are seen in the Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway using a video link to the ENT department in Inverness.
