Emergency repair after £17m Falkirk Wheel breaks down
THE Falkirk Wheel has undergone emergency repairs after breaking down only a few months after its opening.
The tourist attraction ground to a halt yesterday afternoon after one of its lock gates got stuck because of a hydraulic failure.
Passengers were turned away from the world’s first rotating boat lift, which cost 17 million to build.
Around 80 people had their trip cut short after the structure’s electronics picked up a minor fault. British Waterways, in charge of the unique link between the Forth & Clyde and Union canals, insisted the wheel was safe.
