Edinburgh 'well prepared' to face swine flu

CITY leaders have said the Capital is well prepared for the ongoing swine flu outbreak.

Council chief executive Tom Aitchison, addressing yesterday's full council meeting, said: "Without being complacent about this, we are quite far advanced in terms of our planning and preparations.

"I can give you the reassurance that a lot of planning has gone into preparing for this sort of situation and nobody should be alarmed."

Meanwhile, a newly married Edinburgh couple who were quarantined with suspected swine flu have been given the all-clear. Peter and Jennifer Marshall, from Gorgie, had earlier been told to avoid contact with anyone else.

It is understood another six suspected cases are still being monitored in the Lothians.

Yesterday the News reported how one Edinburgh store has sold 150 face masks in the past two days as fears grow of a pandemic.
