Edinburgh set to welcome new venue and bar
A NEW venue and Scottish-themed bar restaurant is to open in the west end.
Ghillie Dhu will open in a former tourism office and casino in Rutland Place, close to the Caledonian Hotel, within weeks.
The project is masterminded by Glasgow businessman Stefan King's G1 Group.
It will be open until 3am with a bar and bistro on the ground floor and an entertainment venue on the first floor. It is expected to become a major venue at this year's Fringe, with G1 Group bringing in musicians, comedians and theatre productions itself, rather than using a promoter.
The renovations to the building include the uncovering of a spectacular vaulted ceiling.
G1 marketing manager Angus Lawrie said: "The company has received awards for its sympathetic reinstatement of historic buildings, and we're following that tradition with Ghillie Dhu."
The venue is due to open in March, creating 70 jobs.
