LAST NIGHT proved to be a testing time for the four judges - Deborah Welsh, Boogie and Richie from Forth Radio and the Evening News’ very own Liam Rudden - as a consistently high standard was maintained throughout. Here’s what they said about each act.

Leona Rae, 31, Wester Hailes

Ain’t No Stopping Me, written herself

Deborah: “What an amazing start to the show. That really woke us up. You were really brave to perform your own material. You’re a proper soul diva.”

Derryn McKillop, 17, Tranent

Dance with my Father, by Luther Vandross

Liam: “Were you nervous? Because it didn’t show. You have a really relaxed performance manner. You looked like you were enjoying it.”

Chloe McLean, 12, Niddrie

Highland dance routine, self-choreographed

Deborah: “You must have been dancing in your pram – a really polished performance.”

Ellen Brown, 12, Musselburgh

In the Arms of an Angel, by Sarah McLachlan

Boogie, below: “I didn’t like that, I loved it! Honestly, that is the most beautiful song.”

Rebecca Traynor, 15, Musselburgh

Bring Me to Life, by Katherine Jenkins

Deborah: “That was right up my street. You nailed it.”

Claire Anderson, 16, Gilberstoun

Skycraper, by Demi Lovato

Liam: “It was your voice I really liked. It is quite a unique voice, like a young Joni Mitchell.”

Ciara Harvie, 14, Longniddry

Imaginer, by Lara Fabian

Richie: “That was incredible, a very intriguing performance. You’ve got a very positive future ahead of you, so keep at it.”

Shayne Kidd, 15, Polwarth

Clown, by Emile Sande

Boogie: “Of everyone here tonight, you were probably the most confident. She’s hot property!”

Dansation, 13 to 18 years old

Spirit, self-choreographed

Liam: “This was a bit different. It was almost dance theatre – there was a story being told. That’s why it worked for me.”

Billie Finlayson, 18, Magdalene

Songbird, by Fleetwood Mac

Deborah: “Hearing your version tonight was like hearing it for the first time.”
