Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home will chip pets

The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is to offer free microchipping for dogs.

In a bid to encourage dog owners to microchip their dogs voluntarily, the EDCH will offer the service from today. The UK Government is set to make the practice mandatory in England by April 2016.

General manager David Ewing said: “The English ruling gives owners over three years to ensure their dog is chipped, but we believe our offer will encourage dog owners in Scotland to willingly protect their dogs from loss.

“Any dog owner who has gone through the trauma of losing their pet will know it’s common sense as well as good animal welfare.”

The service is available to those claiming a stray and owners who make an appointment.
