AN elderly pensioner was being treated in hospital today after being rescued by firefighters from his blazing home at a sheltered housing complex in Dundee.

The pensioner was found in the living room of his ground floor flat in the city’s Dykehead Place after fire crews were called to the scene last night.
The elderly man was given oxygen at the scene before being rushed by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital.
A spokeswoman for Tayside Fire and Rescue Service said crews had responded to a fire within a ground floor flat at Dykehead Place after being alerted by community alarms at the address.
She explained: “On arrival firefighters were confronted with a well-developed fire within the living room of the property and it was believed that the occupier was still trapped inside.
“Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus therefore quickly entered the property and located the casualty in the living room area.
“The casualty was removed from the property and fire crews administered oxygen therapy until the arrival of the ambulance service.
“The fire was extinguished using a hosereel jet and brought under control. here was extensive fire damage to the property and Tayside Fire and Rescue and Tayside Police will now be conducting a joint fire investigation to establish the exact cause of the fire.”
