Drunk admits struggling with police

A DRUNK thug struggled so violently with police in the back of their car that officers were forced to pull over.

Gary Reid, 21, was detained after being found lying motionless on a grass verge.

Officers were forced to put leg restraints on Reid, of Wallyford, East Lothian, to subdue him during the incident on April 1.

He pleaded guilty to resisting, obstructing, molesting and hindering two officers at Haddington Sheriff Court.

Depute fiscal Alison Innes told the court: “The struggle was such that the officer who was driving had to pull in to the hard shoulder then had to get out and restrain him. He appeared very intoxicated.”

Sheriff Derek O’Carroll told unemployed Reid he was “very fortunate” the Crown had decided to drop four other related charges, and due to his limited income sentenced him to 90 hours of community
service.
