Driver facing jail over death
A MAN is facing jail for causing the death by careless driving of a grandad who died after an accident which happened as he was bringing one of his grandchildren home from hospital.
Charles Miller, 78, died a month after a Volkswagen Caddy van driven by John Colquhoun, 64, pulled out into the path of his Citreon ZX hatchback on the busy A904 between Grangemouth and Bo'ness.
Falkirk Sheriff Court heard there was no obvious reason why Colquhoun should not have spotted Mr Miller's car on 16 December last year.
Colquhoun, of Barnes Street, Livingston, pleaded guilty to causing Mr Miller's death by careless driving.
Sheriff William Gallacher deferred sentence until November for reports and an assessment of Colquhoun's ability to perform community service as an alternative to a jail sentence.
