Downpours cause bypass delays

TORRENTIAL rain was tonight causing severe delays for commuters on the city bypass.

Motorists are being warned of long tailbacks after heavy rain caused flooding along the A720.

The entire stretch of road is affected with the worst flooding between Hermiston Gait and Baberton.

All lanes are restricted westbound for more than an hour with rush hour traffic expected to worsen conditions.

Drivers have been advised to avoid the route wherever possible.

An amber warning has been issued by the Met Office across much of central Scotland warning the public to be aware of heavy downpours and resulting surface flooding.
