Dog walker rescued by Dunbar lifeboat crew in sea drama

A TERRIFIED dog walker who found herself waist-deep in the sea had to be rescued after being cut off by the tide.

The woman, who was not identified, had tried to wade back to safety after being stranded on salt marshes at Belhaven Bay, near Dunbar, on Saturday evening.

She contacted coastguards who requested help from Dunbar’s RNLI inshore lifeboat and other crew
members raced to the marshes in the station Land Rover to start a shore search along with a coastguard team.

The shore-based lifeboat crew found the woman – and her dog – who was shaken but unharmed by the incident.

Lifeboat helmsman Alan Blair said: “The tide fills in the marsh area quickly and I can imagine it must have been terrifying for the woman in the dark with visibility cut down by the rain.”
