Detective is honoured for abuse inquiry
THE officer who led the massive police inquiry which tracked down Scotland's worst ever paedophile ring has been presented with an award for outstanding achievement.
Detective Inspector Stuart Hood led the team that spearheaded Operation Algebra, which resulted in prison terms for eight men involved in online child abuse, including life sentences for ringleaders James Rennie and Neil Strachan.
DI Hood was recognised with the Chief Constable's Award during the Lothian and Borders Police Annual Excellence Awards on Friday.
The Operation Algebra team also won awards in the Criminal Justice and Tackling Crime categories.
PC Andy Stewart, PC Alan Dunnet and PC Eddie Smith, plus their dogs Dex, Krakker and Madz, received certificates for arresting 160 suspects in 12 months.
