‘Depression made mum fight police’

A MUM blamed post-natal depression after she began fighting with police officers who were trying to arrest her.

Lydanna McInally was detained during an early-morning incident near the West Port Hotel in Linlithgow.

Livingston Sheriff Court heard that she struggled violently with officer Sean Dalton as he attempted to force her into a police van.

Kate Hart, prosecuting, said McInally, 32, battled so hard that another officer had to help put handcuffs on her.

Then, while being charged at Livingston Police Station, she shouted “You English t***!” at PC Dalton.

The mother of four, from Grangemouth, Stirlingshire, pleaded guilty yesterday to resisting arrest and acting in a racially aggravated manner intended to cause alarm or distress on September 9 last year.

She was admonished by Sheriff Peter Watson, who was told McInally was battling post-natal depression.

Iain Smith, defending, admitted his client’s behaviour had been “completely unacceptable”.

But he added: “Had it not been for the drink she could probably have articulated the true position to the police that she’d been attacked.”
