Demand for snares to be axed
ANIMAL campaigners were today urging the Scottish Government to ban the use of snares.
Environment minister Mike Russell was due to make a statement to the Scottish Parliament on the use of the devices this afternoon.
And animal welfare groups have been leading calls for snaring to be outlawed.
Their campaign has won the backing of high-profile animal lovers, including actress Joanna Lumley, Queen guitarist Brian May and Annette Crosbie from the BBC sitcom One Foot in the Grave.
Louise Robertson, of the League Against Cruel Sports, said: "I hope the minister has listened to what the majority of Scots want and will take away the opportunity to eradicate these vicious traps once and for all."
