Decision date set for hacker McKinnon
Theresa May will announce her decision on whether computer hacker Gary McKinnon is to be extradited to America by 16 October, his lawyer said yesterday.
If the Home Secretary approves the extradition, it is likely Mr McKinnon’s lawyers will launch a last-ditch bid for a judicial review. His lawyer, Karen Todner, confirmed that the decision would be made by 16 October.
She said: “Should the decision from the Home Secretary not be in Mr McKinnon’s favour, the High Court has fixed the case for hearing on 28 and 29 November.”
The US authorities want Mr McKinnon to face trial for hacking into military computers ten years ago. He could face a jail sentence of up to 60 years if convicted.
