Death at pool not suspicious say police

POLICE have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a pensioner at a swimming pool in Leith.

The 70-year-old was pulled from the pool by staff at Leith Victoria Swim Centre early yesterday morning after suffering a suspected heart attack.

They carried out CPR and called paramedics, who rushed him to hospital with a police escort. However, he could not be revived.

A spokeswoman for Edinburgh Leisure, which runs the pool, said: "We can confirm that four leisure attendants at Leith Victoria Swim Centre were required to perform emergency first aid on a male in his 70s who was removed from the swimming pool after suffering a suspected heart attack.

"On arrival at the scene, the paramedic team transported the male to hospital. The paramedics subsequently commended Edinburgh Leisure staff on the prompt and professional manner in which they responded to this emergency.

"Edinburgh Leisure would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the friends and family of the individual involved in this incident."

A police spokesman said: "There are no suspicious circumstances as far as we are concerned."
