'Dazzling' list for Scotland's style awards

HOLLYWOOD stars Ashley Jensen and James McAvoy have been short-listed for awards at a ceremony which celebrates all that is stylish in Scotland.

The critically acclaimed actress in US comedy hit Ugly Betty and the leading man in the blockbuster Atonement are up for most stylish female and male respectively in this year's Scottish Style Awards.

Jenson is up against fellow actors Katie Leung and Laura Fraser, as well as artist Gray Grossart and festival director Hannah McGill. McAvoy is taking on actor Kevin McKidd, comic book and screen writer Grant Morrison, entrepreneur Mutley and footballer Craig Gordon.

The awards ceremony, which will take place at the Old Fruitmarket Gallery in the Merchant City, Glasgow, on 26 October, features 15 award categories, including Scotland's most stylish hotel, restaurant and boutique.

One of the most sought-after awards - Scottish Tastemaker of the Year - will go to the individual or organisation seen as the greatest driver of the nation's cultural agenda.

The organiser, Mary McGowne, said the "dazzling" list of nominees represented "the face of modern Scotland".

This year, for the first time in the event's three-year history, there will be a week of fashion shows prior to the ceremony, with a cross-section of designers, from highbrow to high-street.
