Dawe thrilled as ideas on saving roll in

CITY leader Jenny Dawe said today that she has had a "huge response" to an appeal for ideas on how to save the council money.

Councillor Dawe had invited ideas from firms and individuals on how to plug a 90 million gap in council finances over the next three years. "I've had a huge response, which has been gratifying," she said. "About 95 per cent have been good, sensible ideas."

She admitted that many of the comments have revolved around the trams, but insisted that even in the unlikely event that the project was cancelled, the money would not remain in Edinburgh.

"The money would just go into the Scottish Government coffers and probably be used somewhere in the north of Scotland on roads, not spent on this city," she said.
