Dave Anderson departure ends investigation into his role in council repairs

A TOP city council official who was suspended in the wake of the investigation into the authority’s property repairs service has resigned from his post.

Dave Anderson, who was paid £123,535 a year as director of city development, was sent home in June over allegations that the initial internal probe into the repairs scandal was not properly pursued.

A council statement said Mr Anderson had intimated his decision to resign to pursue consultancy interests in economic development, investment and urban regeneration across the UK and Europe.

It is understood his resignation will officially take effect at the end of the month.

His departure means the investigation into his role will now be abandoned.

The council statement, understood to have been agreed by lawyers, said: “Dave made a significant contribution to the economic development of the city during his time with the council, with economic successes arising from his innovative and entrepreneurial approach to his role as director of city development.

“His decision to leave the council brings to a close the investigation into his knowledge and management of the issues under scrutiny in the council’s property conservation service.

“It can be confirmed that the investigation has not revealed any evidence to doubt Dave’s honesty, integrity and 
entrepreneurial abilities. We wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Mr Anderson joined the council in 2008 from Scottish Enterprise and his time as director saw him involved with major projects including the trams, the Edinburgh BioQuarter, the extension of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and attracting major investors to the city.

At least 20 staff at the property conservation department have been suspended as part of the ongoing investigation.

Tory economic development spokesman Jason Rust said: “It will be interesting to see the full outcome of the investigation when it does not compromise any current proceedings.”
