Darwin book sells for £450

A MYSTERY Capital woman has forked out £450 for a rare edition of Charles Darwin’s The Origin of Species which was handed in to a charity shop.

The 1892 version was dumped in a dusty cardboard box outside a Cancer Research UK shop in Aberdeen.

The woman, who bought it as a gift for her scientist husband, asked the charity’s Morningside branch for help after hearing of the donation.

Samantha Campanella, manager of the city shop, said: “When the lady saw the book in the paper, she was so worried as she could not get up to Aberdeen as it was so far away.

“But when I said we could ring the shop and get it sent down, you should have seen her face.

“I am just so pleased we were able to go the extra mile, quite literally, for her.”
