Danger road to get yellow lines
ONE of the most dangerous streets in Edinburgh could be set for double yellow lines.
Hawthornvale in Newhaven has had a catalogue of problems in the last few years, including emergency service vehicles being blocked and some drivers playing a form of "chicken" by driving towards each other.
One of the reasons cited for the perilous state of the road is lines of parked cars on either side narrowing the road. Coupled with sharp bends and being the main link between the waterfront and the centre of Newhaven, community leaders, local politicians, and police, have long wanted a permanent solution.
Although the council doesn't have any definite plans to install the double yellow lines, it is understood to be in the pipeline.
Leith councillor Marjorie Thomas said: "Cars parked on either side of the road is causing a problem there and it has been considered that putting double yellow lines either on the corner or the whole way up the street may be a solution."
Police recently ordered residents not to park on the kerb as it was causing difficulties for wheelchair users.
