Cupar trio win £1m postcode lottery
THREE neighbours from Fife have split almost £1 million between them after winning the People’s Postcode Lottery’s Summer Millions.
Margaret Nelson, Kathleen Todd and Bob Marshall from Blalowan Gardens, Cupar, all picked up cheques for £333,333, after hitting the jackpot when their postcode KY15 5EL was announced at a private party at the town’s Corn Exchange.
Bob Marshall, a retired RAF officer, “couldn’t believe it” when he discovered that he had won £333,333. Asked how he’ll spend his winnings, the 72-year-old said his first plan is to buy a brand new, comfortable car.
“I don’t know which car I want, but a brand new one would be great,” said Marshall, father of two sons and grandfather to four children.
“And of course, some treats for the family,” he added.
Margaret Nelson,67, also said she would buy a new car.
“We could all go shopping together and buy them,” joked Margaret.
“It’s just unbelievable – I just can’t take it in. I can’t believe I’ve won so much money, it’s the best news ever. I’ve also got plenty of children and grandchildren to spoil with my winnings.”
The third winner Todd,77, revealed that she almost missed out on the big prize. The retired nurse and Cupar’s 2010 “Citizen of the Year”, is due to move house and postcode in just two weeks.
“Just think if I moved house and changed my postcode last month,” she said.
Also a retired nurse and a grandmother, Kathleen won her Citizen of the Year award for her charitable work.
After retiring from Adamson Hospital, she has continued to raise funds for the institution’s League of Friends over the last 20 years.
