Council house rent rises 5%
RENTS for council homes in Midlothian are set to rise by five per cent from the start of April.
Council chiefs also said that another five per cent increase will be levied on tenants from the beginning of April, 2010.
The average weekly rent for the next financial year is expected to be 46.30 – the third lowest rate in Scotland.
A council spokeswoman said: "The proposed increase house rent for 2009/2010, and for 2010/2011, is five per cent, subject to consultation."
